OUR NATURAL PATHWAY TO WELLNESS
“We are still beholden to ecological laws, the same as any other life-form.” ~ Janine M. Benyus
Life on earth has thrived for 3.8 billion years, a rich history of elegant solutions to problems that stands as a living testimony to the myriad ways in which life-affirming conditions are created and preserved.
There´s no growth without transformation; in the world of nature, everything is gently but constantly being pushed towards balance. From the tiniest microorganisms to ourselves, all living things are dependent on their surroundings to grow. The environment connects the outer worlds of landscape, climate, and social organization, to the inner world of our physiology, including our cognitive and emotional dimensions.
Transformation is continuously favored in a way that seems both regular and irregular—a natural rhythm by which similar yet never identical cycles emerge as chaos becomes ordered with harmonic precision. Considering how the dynamics of change might help us transform stress into relaxation, we set out on a quest to apply our findings to technological innovation.
THE HEART AS A COMPASS
“One sees clearly only with the heart. Anything essential is invisible to the eyes.” ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
We tend to think of stress as something environmental, caused by external conditions. So much so, that we even relate to it like we do the weather—we assume there´s nothing we can do about it. But no matter how many external stressors there might be or whatever situation we might find ourselves in, it is our personal response to the environment that determines how stressful our experience will be.
Just like in the natural world we described above, research on physiological variability shows that over longer time spans, coherent cardiac rhythms are equally complex and stable, connecting the internal environment of our emotions, thoughts, and physiology with the external cycles of change and transformation. For us, the connection has become clear: there is a pulse to nature that might help us tap into our own nature. And it leads us to the heart.
With our bioinspired approach to vagus nerve stimulation, we feel we have designed a unique technology that allows us to become much more resilient to stress and embrace the changes this particular time in history requires. We have listened to our hearts for guidance, both literally—as in looking for the most coherence-inducing protocols—and symbolically.
It is exciting: nature has the answers, we just have to ask the right questions.
